Pune: Medical Experts Unite To Shed Light On The Far-Reaching Impact Of Noise Pollution On Public Health

Pune, 28th September 2023: Amid growing concerns about the adverse effects of noise pollution on human health, a panel of medical experts from diverse specialties has come together to raise awareness about this pervasive issue.

The initiative aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the far-reaching consequences of noise pollution, which has been linked to a range of health issues, including hearing loss, cardiovascular disease, anxiety, depression, and sleep disturbances.

The panel includes neurologists, cardiologists, general physicians, otolaryngologists (ENT specialists), psychiatrists, veterinarians, gynecologists, pediatricians, and ophthalmologists. Each expert offers unique insights into how noise pollution impacts their respective fields and patients.

Dr. Lomesh Bhirud, a neurologist, emphasized the detrimental effects of noise pollution on cognitive performance, memory, and emotional well-being.

Dr. Priya Palimkar, a cardiologist, highlighted the increased risk of hypertension and cardiovascular disease due to noise exposure.

Dr. SZ Anwar, a general physician, discussed the broad health implications, including its impact on stress levels and the immune system.
ENT specialist Mariya Motiwala spoke about the direct effects of noise pollution on hearing and balance, while psychiatrist Dr. Rohan Jahangirdar delved into the psychological consequences, such as increased stress and anxiety.

Veterinarian Pallab Saikia discussed the impact on pets and wildlife, and gynecologist Madhu Juneja explored potential links between noise pollution and pregnancy complications. Eye specialist Sachin Bodhale even suggested a link between noise exposure and vision problems like cataracts and glaucoma.

The panel believes that by presenting a unified front, they can encourage policymakers, businesses, and individuals to take necessary steps towards mitigation. “We hope this collaboration sparks meaningful conversations and inspires positive change,” said the panel in a joint statement.

The initiative has been warmly received by Pune residents, who appreciate the experts’ efforts to bring attention to this critical public health concern.
