Pune, 12th October 2022: A case has been registered by Pune Rural police against a staff of the Military Engineering Service (MES) posted in Dapodi and his accomplice for allegedly duping a woman of Rs six lakh under the pretext of helping her get a job with the Indian Railways. Lonavala city police station filed the FIR yesterday based on a tip-off from the Army’s Military Intelligence (MI).

The 29-year-old complainant woman runs a canteen at INS Shivaji, a naval establishment in Lonavala, where the accused Omkar Bhave was posted earlier. Now Bhave works as a senior administrative assistant at Garrison Engineer (GE) at the College of Military Engineering (CME), Dapodi, Pune.

“Bhave used to come to my canteen for tea, and we got acquainted. He promised to help me get a government job and demanded Rs 18 lakh. However, I showed my inability to pay the amount. Therefore, he reduced the amount to Rs eight lakh. We somehow arranged Rs seven lakh and gave it to him in 2019. He introduced me to Rachna Surve alias Purva at Inorbit Mall in Vashi as the person who worked with the railways. She showed me my appointment letter and took my signature. She also gave me an identity card and told me that I will get the job after payment of the full amount. I paid the balance money but still did not get the job,” the complainant told police.

He sent Rs two lakh in May and June 2020. However, he did not refund the remaining Rs six lakh even after two years,” she added.

After getting a complaint, MI officials probed the matter and handed over the case to Lonavala police. The FIR has been registered for offences under sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further investigation is going on.
