Pune: Minor Girl’s Pregnancy Exposes Child Marriage, Police Take Action

Pune, 21st March 2023: A minor girl who was discovered to be pregnant after being admitted to the hospital with a fever has led to a case of child marriage being registered against her parents and husband. The incident occurred in Satara, where the girl had come to her maternal home and was taken to the hospital by her brother for treatment. Upon examination, it was discovered that she was only 17 years old and pregnant.

The doctor immediately informed the Satara police, who registered a case against the parents who arranged the marriage of the minor girl and her husband. The case has been transferred to the Pune Police for further investigation.

Child marriage is illegal in India, with the legal age for marriage being 18 years for females and 21 years for males. Such incidents not only violate the law but also deprive children of their fundamental rights, including education, health, and safety.
