Pune: Mobile Clinic For Warkaris Marks 25 Years Of Selfless Service; Over 300 Medical Volunteers To Serve Warkaris On Pilgrimage Route

Pune, 20th June 2025: Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, along with other dignitaries, launched the mobile clinic initiative for the Warkari community, which has been ongoing for 25 years. Patil described the act of providing healthcare services to Warkaris as a deeply noble and commendable service.
Patil was speaking at the launch of the mobile clinic initiative for warkaris, organised jointly by Symbiosis University Hospital and Research Centre, Symbiosis International University, and the Sou. Sheela Raj Salve Memorial Trust. This year marks the silver jubilee of the initiative, which began 25 years ago with a single ambulance and has now expanded significantly.
The mobile clinic will operate from Pune to Jejuri, providing essential medical care to pilgrims participating in the annual wari procession. The initiative now includes 10 fully equipped large ambulances, five two-wheeler ambulances, and a dedicated team of over 300 doctors, nurses, and volunteers.
The launch event took place at the Symbiosis campus on Senapati Bapat Road. It was attended by prominent figures including Symbiosis founder Dr. SB Mujumdar, Ulhas Pawar, Republican Party President Rajendra Gawai, trustee Sanjeevani Mujumdar, Principal Director Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar, Trust founder Adv. Avinash Salve, PMC Engineer Prashant Waghmare, University Vice-Chancellor Dr. R Raman, and former Deputy Mayor Mukari Algude.
“Serving lakhs of warkaris with dedication is a praiseworthy effort. All those who selflessly work for their well-being are truly the ‘Wariveers’ of Pandharpur,” Patil said.
Reflecting on the journey of the mobile clinic, Dr. Mujumdar said, “What began with one ambulance has now grown into a fleet of more than ten. This initiative has been instrumental in easing the strain of the warkaris. It will continue to operate without interruption in the years to come.”
