Khed, 20th June 2025: In a welcome development for Pune’s eastern region, including Khed and Shirur, the Bhama Askhed dam has recorded a water storage level of 29.76% as of 20th June, more than double the amount stored on the same day last year. On this date in 2024, the dam had only 14.70% storage.

Located in the western part of Khed taluka, the Bhama Askhed dam is an earthen dam built across the Bhama River. The total storage capacity of the reservoir stands at 8.14 TMC (thousand million cubic feet). So far this year, the catchment area has received 139 mm of rainfall since 1st June contributing significantly to the rising water levels.

As of today, the dam holds a total of 2.91 TMC of water, with 2.43 TMC classified as usable. The rising water levels are attributed to consistent rainfall in the surrounding areas, and officials say that storage is increasing rapidly as mountain springs begin to flow.

The dam plays a vital role in supplying water to eastern Pune as well as the pilgrimage town of Alandi. Plans are also underway to extend water supply from the dam to Pimpri-Chinchwad city, with a provision of 2.14 TMC allocated for this purpose.
