Pune, 4th October 2022: The residents of Nyati County, Mohmadwadi – Undri, have major concerns with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) among which water is a huge issue. As Nyati Builders is the construction company that has built many societies, the properties have been sold by the builder of assurance of PMC water pipeline which would be laid soon. Since 2012, the day of PMC water layout is still pending in the Nyati County.

Sunil Koloti, a resident of Nyati Windchimes at Mohammadwadi said, ‘’Most of the water supplied here is by water tankers. This is a complete mafia-running operation where societies have to buy water and run current demand vs supply for the residents. Plus, they also have to pay property tax with water tax to the PMC and when not paid there are fines imposed.’’

In addition, there are a few more issues faced by the housing societies like, there are no sewage lines from societies connecting to the mainstream sewage system. Sewage tankers visit to collect the waste which is pumped out on a fortnightly basis and the same is also the cost borne by the societies.

Durga Krishorrmurthi, a resident of Nyati Ethos said, ‘’Garbage collection by the PMC is done in an inconsistent basis and road cleanliness is a dream. Some pipes are lying on the roads which are also blocking the traffic.’’

Sunil Iyer a resident of Nyati Chesterfield said, ‘’The lack of proper street lights on the roads, has resulted in theft during nights and a few fatal accidents have also taken place due to no visibility in the darkness.’’

Nandu Kale, a resident of Mohammadwadi said, ‘’There are potholes on the roads and the roads are too narrow. The roads are not wide enough to handle the traffic which just moves at a 5 km/hr pace. There is no proper connectivity from NIBM Junction to Mohmadwadi and Undri which results in heavy morning and evening traffic.”

With the approximate collection of Rs.40 – 45 Crore as property tax only from Undri, and if the taxes of Mohmadwadi is added then the collection will be around Rs.80 – 100 Crs annually.

This project could have been completed with a lesser cost and all residents could have applauded PMC for their efforts and work, but unfortunately, there is no light to be seen at the end of the tunnel.

PMC Chief Engineer (Road) VG Kulkarni did not respond to calls and messages regarding these issues.
