Pune MP Girish Bapat Laid To Rest With State Honours

Pune, March 29, 2023: The Lok Sabha Member of Parliament for Pune constituency, Girish Bapat, was cremated at Vaikunth Crematorium with state honors. The Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, offered floral tributes on behalf of the government.

District Guardian Minister, Chandrakant Patil, Women and Child Development Minister, Mangalprabhat Lodha, Former Union Minister, Prakash Javadekar, MP Shrirang Barne, MLC Uma Khapre, and MLAs Sunil Kamble, Bhimrao Tapkir, Siddharth Shirole, Ashok Pawar, Madhuri Misal, Ravindra Dhangekar, Rahul Kul, and MLC Shrikant Bhartiya also paid their respects by offering floral garlands.

Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis spoke about the late Bapat’s contribution to the state, saying, “He was a leader of common people. His leadership stood through many agitations. The history of Pune will not be able to move forward without the page of his life.”

A senior BJP leader, Bapat had served as a Corporator, Municipal Standing Committee Chairman, and five times MLA in Legislative Assembly from Kasba Peth constituency and subsequently represented Pune in Lok Sabha.

Bapat served as a minister between 2014 and 2019 and made significant contributions, including detecting one crore bogus ration cards by connecting Aadhaar to all the ration cards and providing rations to one crore new poor.

The national flag draped over Bapat’s body was handed over to his son Gaurav Bapat, after the police force accorded him an armed salute by blowing the bugle and firing three gun rounds.

District Collector Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh, Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar, Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, and Lok Sabha Speaker also paid their respects by offering floral wreaths.

Several dignitaries, including former ministers, MLAs, and MPs, came to pay their respects to Bapat. His passing has left a void in the political and social landscape of Pune.

Former minister Harshvardhan Patil, former state minister Dilip Kamble, Vijay Shivtare, Ramesh Bagwe, former MP Sanjay Kakade, Amar Sable, former MLA Medha Kulkarni, Yogesh Tilekar, Chandrakant Mokate, Mohan Joshi, Ulhas Joshi, Narendra Pawar, Sharad Dhamale came to pay tribute to Bapat along with political, social and citizens from various fields.
