Pune-Mumbai Cab Fares Up by Rs 300-400 as Fuel Costs Rise
Pune/Mumbai, 3rd June 2026: Travelling between Pune and Mumbai has become costlier, with cab operators increasing fares following successive hikes in petrol, diesel and CNG prices. The revised rates, implemented over the past week, have added Rs 300-400 to the cost of a one-way journey on the busy intercity route.
Cab operators said they had absorbed rising fuel costs for several weeks but were eventually forced to pass on the burden to customers. The cab operators said an average fare for a one-way trip in a car has increased from Rs 3,500 to Rs 3,800, including toll charges. The revised fare came into effect during the last week of May.
“A majority of my passengers travel to Mumbai airport for international flights. Fuel prices have gone up repeatedly and it became impossible to continue operating at the old rates,” a cab operator said.
According to operators, the Pune-Mumbai route remains highly competitive, prompting many service providers to delay fare revisions despite rising operating expenses. However, repeated fuel price increases throughout May left little room to continue absorbing losses.
Fuel prices in Pune currently stand at around Rs 96.50 per kg for CNG, Rs 98.68 per litre for diesel and Rs 112.04 per litre for petrol.
The fare hike has particularly affected frequent travellers, including corporate employees, students and passengers heading to Mumbai’s airports.
