Pune Municipal Corporation Faces Rs 10 Crore Loss Over Sweeping Tender, Transparency Questioned

Pune, 20th May 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) sweeping tender process for 14 ward offices has come under heavy criticism, with allegations that it could result in a loss of Rs 10 crore to the civic body. The tender, valued at Rs 148 crore and floated for area-based sweeping work, is being challenged for its lack of transparency and alleged favouritism towards specific contractors.
The organisation ‘Aaple Pune Ani Aapla Parisar’ has demanded an immediate halt to the tender process, warning that if the process is not scrapped, they will approach the Supreme Court. “This tender has not been conducted transparently and seems designed to benefit select individuals or organisations,” the group stated in a memorandum submitted to PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale.
Ujjwal Keskar, the organisation’s president and former Leader of Opposition, along with former Shiv Sena corporator Prashant Badhe and Suhas Kulkarni, personally submitted the demand to cancel the tender. They allege that the terms and conditions are confusing and skewed in favour of a few contractors, suggesting that municipal officers under the commissioner’s authority have deliberately misled the process.
With the risk of a significant financial setback for the PMC, the organisation insists that the sweeping tender be cancelled to protect public funds and ensure a fair, transparent process in the future.
