Pune, 28th June 2023: The Industrial Training College (ITI) of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is undergoing a transformation to provide state-of-the-art technologies, courses, and essential facilities akin to those offered in Odisha. The initiative aims to furnish the industrial sector with skilled and trained manpower, prompting the Municipal Corporation to focus on the development of the ITI school.

Located in Shukrawar Peth, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Industrial Training Institute (ITI) has existed under the Municipal Corporation. However, it has not received significant attention from the administration until now. During an inspection, Additional Municipal Commissioner Vikas Dhakne noticed the deteriorating condition of the ITI and approved funds for its repairs.

In a bid to enhance the ITI’s standards, the concept of aligning it with the ITIs in Orissa was introduced. To explore this further, Pramod Mule, the in-charge principal of the school, dispatched Nilesh Pawar, the in-charge supervisor, and Suresh Viddate, the head of the school, to study the ITIs in Odisha and gather insights.

Pramod Mule, the in-charge principal of the ITI, expressed, “Odisha boasts a cutting-edge ITI where students receive education integrated with modern technology. The facilities provided include necessary equipment, demonstrations, a government mobile app, specialized courses for women, and baking courses. The curriculum is designed to produce skilled manpower, opening up excellent job opportunities. We aim to introduce similar changes in the Municipal ITI.”

Vikas Dhakne, the Additional Commissioner, emphasized the significance of Orissa’s ITIs, stating, “Approximately 40 percent of the manpower in the industrial sector in Pimpri Chinchwad originates from Odisha. Thus, I personally inspected the ITI project there and suggested that our teachers visit Odisha to study and implement a similar model in the Municipal Corporation’s ITI. We have completed 30 percent of the infrastructure work so far and intend to finish the rest expeditiously.”
