Pune: Muslim Leaders Demand FIR Against Nitesh Rane, Mahesh Landage and Milind Ekbote Over Controversial Remarks During A Protest Over Punyeshwar Temple

Pune 5th Sept 2023: The leaders of various organisations of Muslim community and trustees of ‘Chhoti Dargah’ have submitted a complaint to Pune City Police Commissioner Reetesh Kumaar demanding action against BJA MLAs Nitesh Rane, Mahesh Landage and hindutva leader Milind Ekbote for allegedly giving controversial remarks during a protest in the city. They have demanded police to register an FIR against these people for giving inciteful statements during a protest which according to them can further disturb the peace between the two communities.
The trustees have stated in their letter that the two communities are living peacefully in the area for years. However, the BJP leaders and other people have tried to disturb the peaceful environment in the area by organising a protest ahead of Dahi Handi and Eid-E-Milad festival. The muslim leaders have also threatened to protest against the police administration if they fail to register a case in the matter.
It may be noted that the Hindutva organisations on Monday held a protest demanding action against the alleged encroachment near the Punyeshwar temple in Kasba Peth area. The protest was also attended by the members of BJP. It was alleged that the Chhoti Dargah located near the temple has done illegal construction and the civic body has failed to take action in the matter. The BJP MLA further even threatened to demolish the Dargah if the civic officials fail to take action. The BJP MLAs Mahesh Landage and Nitesh Rane also used foul language against municipal corporation officials during the protest.
It may be noted that the issue regarding Dargah and the temple is already challenged in the court and the matter is yet to reach the final verdict.
