Pune: Nagaland Youths Assaulted in Kondhwa, FIR Filed Against Attackers

Kondhwa, 31st December 2023: In a disturbing incident reported to the Kondhwa police station, Pune, Benrushen Menthing Lemo, a 26-year-old freelance tattoo artist from Nagaland, lodged an FIR detailing a brutal assault on himself and his friends.

 

Lemo, a resident of Shivnerinagar, Kondhwa, lives with his wife. The incident took place around 8:30 PM Thursday (28th December) at Achin’s hotel, a short distance from his residence.

 

According to Lemo, while enjoying tea at the hotel, his friends, Chingthu Pom and Boto Sumi, were approached by three unidentified boys on a scooter. Without provocation, one of the assailants slapped Chingthu on the cheek, initiating a torrent of verbal abuse.

 

“When the hotel owner Achin tried to intervene, more of the accused’s friends arrived, escalating the situation. They continued to verbally abuse us and physically assaulted us, one of them wielding a wooden stick. Chingthu was struck on the forehead, and Boto had a stone thrown at his cheek, causing a wound and bleeding,” lamented Lemo.

 

Amidst the chaos, K Lal Dampuri came to their aid, but facing the threat of imminent harm, the group had to flee the scene. In the process, their mobile phones were lost.

 

Soon police reached there after getting information. The locals revealed that the primary assailant was Umar Shaikh and his associates. The victims, accompanied by the police, proceeded to Kondhwa Police Station. After getting medical slip went to Sassoon Hospital for treatment and subsequently filed a complaint with the police.

 

The police have registered a case against Umar Shaikh and unidentified accomplices under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 149 (member of unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon), 504 (intentional insult), 427 (mischief causing damage), and 352 (assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation).

 

As the investigation unfolds, the police are pursuing leads to apprehend the perpetrators.
