Pune-Nashik Semi-High-Speed Rail Project Gains Momentum; New DPR Submitted
Pune, 6th January 2025: The Pune Railway Division has submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Pune-Nashik semi-high-speed rail line to the Railway Board. Dharam Veer Meena, General Manager of Central Railway, confirmed the submission but stated that the project’s cost is yet to be finalized.
General Manager Meena recently conducted an inspection of the safety and operations on the dual carriageway between Manmad and Daund. During this review, he held discussions with railway staff, public representatives, and other officials. Following the inspection, he addressed the media to provide updates on ongoing projects.
Accompanying Meena were Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Pune Division, Indu Dubey; Chief Public Relations Officer, Dr. Swapnil Nila; Deputy Manager, Brijesh Kumar Singh; Commercial Manager, Dr. Milind Hirve; and Senior Operations Manager, Dr. Ramdas Bhise.
One of the significant challenges the proposed Pune-Nashik railway line faced was its potential adverse impact on the operations of the Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope (GMRT) near Narayangaon. The Ministry of Railways had earlier rejected the initial proposal due to these concerns.
Following these developments, the Central Railway was directed to prepare a revised DPR for the route. DRM Dubey confirmed that a final location survey has been conducted, and the revised DPR has been submitted. This update has renewed optimism for the project, which promises to improve connectivity and boost regional development.
In addition to the Pune-Nashik route, the Pune Division is also progressing on a new Pune-Nagar railway line. Dubey shared that a final location survey for this route is underway. Once completed, the DPR and subsequent stages will follow, aiming to enhance travel efficiency and provide significant relief to commuters in the region.
