Pune: National Flag Disrespect Incident At Koregaon Park Pub; Singer Uma Shanti Booked
Koregaon Park, 14th August 2023: An incident of a female singer allegedly disrespecting the national flag during a performance at a Koregaon Park pub has recently come to light, prompting legal action. Pune police have officially registered a case against the singer in connection with the episode.
The case revolves around singer Uma Shanti alias Jiapiha Larina and event organizer Karthik More, resident of Aundh. The incident took place at the Freq – Super Club Bar Kitchen located in the Koregaon Park area, at around 12:30 midnight on Sunday.
A formal complaint was lodged by Police Constable Tanaji Deshmukh at the Mundhwa police station. According to police, Karthik More had organized a pre-Independence Day event at the Freq – Super Club Bar Kitchen, which featured a performance by Uma Shanti from the Shanti People music band.
During her performance, Uma Shanti was seen dancing and waving the national flag, which she held in both hands. The incident was captured on video and subsequently circulated, leading to the registration of a case by the police. Assistant Police Inspector Sandeep Jore is further investigating the case.
Police said that both the accused have been booked for offences under section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 and sections 110 and 117 of the Maharashtra Police Act. Nobody has been arrested yet.
