Pune: NCP (SP) Spokesperson Vikas Lavande Gets Bail in Case Over Alleged Remarks Against Warkari Sect
Pune, 27th May 2026: A court in Pune has granted bail to Vikas Lavande, the NCP (SP) spokesperson who was arrested for allegedly making objectionable remarks about the Warkari sect and saints on social media.
While granting bail, the court observed that the investigation in the case had reached its final stage and that the offence carries a punishment of less than three years. The court noted that there was no need to keep the accused in judicial custody as “nothing further would be achieved” by continued detention.
Considering the nature of the offence and the possibility of influencing witnesses, the court directed Lavande not to commit a similar offence in future, refrain from tampering with evidence, and submit details of his permanent residential address before the court. Lavande agreed to comply with all the conditions.
Senior advocate Milind Pawar argued the bail application on behalf of Lavande. Advocates Suyog Gaikwad, Harshvardhan Pawar and Sarang Bahirat assisted in the matter.
A video of Lavande had surfaced on social media on April 29, in which he was allegedly seen making objectionable remarks about the Warkari community. Following the circulation of the clip, a woman lodged a complaint at Wagholi Police Station.
Earlier, an additional sessions court in Pune had vacated the interim anticipatory bail protection granted to Lavande. Subsequently, Pune Police arrested him on May 21. After his arrest, the court had remanded him to judicial custody at Yerawada Central Jail, from where he has now secured bail.
