Pune: New Police Stations Approved For Laxminagar, Lohgaon, Narhe, Yevlewadi, Manjri
Pune, 17th September 2025: In view of the rapid expansion of Pune city, the Maharashtra Home Department has approved the creation of five new police stations and two new police zones under the Pune Police Commissionerate. The move is aimed at strengthening law enforcement, maintaining order, and addressing citizens’ grievances more effectively.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed that work on the new police stations would begin soon. “The Home Department has approved our proposals for new police stations, zones, and manpower. We expect the new facilities to be functional by the end of October,” he said.
The new police stations will be set up in Laxminagar (Yerwada), Lohgaon, Narhe, Yevlewadi (Kondhwa), and Manjri. Along with these, two new police zones have also been sanctioned. A manpower strength of around 800 police personnel has been approved for the new police stations and zones.
Restructuring of Existing Police Jurisdictions
With the new arrangement, several existing police station limits will be reorganized:
Airport Police Station will be bifurcated to form Lohgaon Police Station.
Hadapsar Police Station will be split to create Manjri Police Station.
Sinhgad Road Police Station will be divided to form Narhe Police Station.
Yerwada Police Station will be bifurcated to set up Laxminagar Police Station.
Kondhwa Police Station will be divided to form Yevlewadi Police Station.
Currently, Pune city has five police zones, and with this approval, the number will increase further. The Home Department has also cleared additional posts, including Deputy Commissioners of Police, to support the expansion.
Background of the Proposal
The proposal for new police stations was put forward by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar after the inauguration of Pune Police’s AI-based CCTV surveillance project last month by Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Considering the city’s growing population and urban spread, the Police Commissionerate submitted a detailed proposal for five police stations, new zones, additional manpower, and senior officer posts.
Purpose of Expansion
Officials said the new police stations are being created to:
Strengthen law and order in newly urbanized areas.
Speed up the resolution of citizens’ complaints.
Improve crime prevention and investigation.
Ensure better distribution of workload among police units.
The move comes a year after seven new police stations were established in the city, highlighting the ongoing efforts of the state government and Pune Police to keep pace with the city’s rapid urban growth.
