Pune, 28th November 2023: Residents of Pune will soon have a direct route from Gunjan Chowk to Wadgaon Sheri, as the road from Gunjan Chowk will be connected to the Shivane road under the metro line in the riverbed. This development will provide an additional route to Kalyani Nagar, Wadgaon Sheri, Mundhwa, and Hadapsar. The road, approximately 30 meters wide, will pass through Gunjan Chowk.

The road construction is nearly complete, with Mahametro having 110 meters of space left. In a meeting with the district administration, Mahametro expressed readiness to hand over this space to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The proposal for funds to complete the remaining work will be submitted for approval to the Pune Municipal Commissioner.

The road department aims to finish the construction within the next two months. Given that most of the area lies on the lower side of the metro line, the road will be developed on both sides, with the metro pillar in the middle—an arrangement approved by Mahametro.

PMC only needs to build a 110-meter-long road, which can be swiftly executed if funds are available. However, since the new road is about 20 meters beyond Gunjan Chowk, a new chowk will be constructed, necessitating traffic planning with police assistance and the addition of a new signal.

The new road will provide a more efficient route for vehicles coming from Pune Station, Khadki, and Vishrantwadi to reach Wadgaon Sheri. It will also be a preferred route for those heading to Kalyani Nagar or Wadgaon Sheri from the city. This development is expected to alleviate congestion in Shastrinagar Chowk and Wadgaon Sheri Chowk. The direct route from Gunjan Chowk to Kalyaninagar and Wadgaon Sheri through the riverbed road will enable smoother travel without additional signals.

Vikas Dhakane, Additional Commissioner of the Pune Municipal Corporation, stated, “This road has been paved with the availability of space. The proposal for the necessary funds for this work will soon be placed for the approval of the Pune Municipal Commissioner. This will give Pune residents another new road.”
