Pimpri Chinchwad, 20th December 2024: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has introduced stricter measures aimed at promoting sustainable construction practices. A circular issued on 19th December 2024, outlines new directives designed to address noise pollution, water conservation, and waste management in the city. These guidelines come after citizen feedback and discussions with CREDAI (Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India).

The new rules include a ban on construction activities between 10 PM and 7 AM to reduce disturbances to residents, particularly senior citizens and children. PCMC’s decision follows numerous complaints from citizens regarding nighttime noise.

To encourage water conservation, PCMC has mandated that all new housing projects install individual water meters. This change ensures better accountability for water usage, replacing the previous system that measured water consumption at the societal level. Builders must also install aerator taps in every housing unit to optimize water efficiency.

Additionally, the new rules reinforce C&D (construction and demolition) waste management efforts. PCMC’s dedicated processing plant will now require developers to use at least 10% recycled materials from the plant for non-structural purposes, such as paving blocks. Builders must comply with this condition before receiving occupancy certificates.

PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh emphasized that these measures reflect the corporation’s commitment to a sustainable, citizen-friendly city. He stated, “These steps aim to improve residents’ quality of life, optimize resources, and set new standards for responsible urban development.”
