Pune: One Month After Inspection, Key Civic Works Still Pending in Manjri–Shewalewadi
Manjari, 14th November 2025: A month after Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram inspected the Manjari–Shewalewadi area and directed officials to complete 15 crucial civic works within set deadlines, residents say most tasks remain unfinished. Except for a few superficial activities, several works appear to be only for show, leading to growing dissatisfaction among locals.
On October 18, the Commissioner toured various parts of Manjari–Shewalewadi, reviewed civic issues and expressed displeasure over the negligence of officials. He subsequently transferred the Assistant Commissioner and suspended three others. During the visit, Ram instructed officials to act on 15 specific issues and fix deadlines ranging from one day to one month.
However, as the deadlines near completion, many tasks remain pending. Key works such as installing streetlights on the Manjari railway flyover, cleaning dividers, removing garbage from the canal and starting construction of the compound wall at the primary school have not progressed. Security guards have not been deployed at the school or crematorium, encroachments remain untouched, and potholes continue to trouble motorists. Instead of installing welcome arches at the city entry point, a simple board has been placed.
Residents now fear incorrect or incomplete progress reports may reach the Commissioner when he reviews the status of these works in the coming days.
The works ordered for completion include verifying the STP capacity of the Joyvilla construction project suspected of causing water pollution, penalising those dumping waste, fixing iron mesh along the service road of the highway, installing welcome arches at the city entrance, widening the Shewalewadi–Manjari road by removing obstacles, constructing a compound and gate at Manjari Primary School, clearing debris, strengthening security in schools, beautifying the divider from Manjari village to the flyover, removing encroachments from Manjari Phata to the village, cleaning garbage and water hyacinth from Baby Canal, removing soil alongside the divider, installing lights on the railway flyover, submitting land acquisition reports and holding coordination meetings between the PMC and PWD on highway-related issues.
Former deputy sarpanch of Shewalewadi, Rahul Shewale, said the Commissioner had assured quick action. “Some work has progressed, but the deadline for all tasks ends on the 18th. We will review everything and inform the Commissioner, and urge completion of the remaining works,” he said.
Assistant Commissioner Ravi Khandare from the Hadapsar-Mundhwa regional office said work under the Assistant Commissioner’s jurisdiction has been completed. “Processes such as tendering for work handled by main departments are already underway. Those works will also be completed soon,” he added.
