Pune – Online narcotic drugs racket busted, doctor, engineering student arrested
On the basis of an Information received regarding online procurement and trafficking of Psychotropic drugs in large quantity , the officers of Narcotics Cell, Customs, Pune kept surveillance near a mall located on Pune Nagar Road on 03.04.2019 and intercepted one car bearing registration no. MH-14-EP-4249.
Personal search of two occupants and the aforesaid Car resulted in recovery of white colour crystal like powder purported to be Mephedrone (MD); Pink colored triangular pills like substance purported to be Ecstasy Pills (MDMA) ; and large quantity of stamp like article (163 nos.) purported to be LSD, all psychotropic substance, approximately valued at Rs. 8 Lakhs in the Indian illicit market ,were seized under Panchanama dated 03.04.2019. Two persons, one a doctor by profession and the other an engineering student of a reputed engineering college from Pune have been apprehended.
Both accused in their statement have accepted willful and conscious possession, and admitted that they had purchased these drugs for sale from an online portal and the payment was made by them to suppliers through digital payment. Their modus operandi of advertising the drugs in their circle, procuring it through internet and dispatching it through courier is under investigation.
Both the accused persons have been arrested and are presently remanded to Customs custody till 08.04.2019 by NDPS Court Pune. This is first case of it kind wherein the racket of online purchase and sale of narcotics drugs has been busted by Customs department in Pune City. A detailed investigation of the Online suppliers, and their customers, to whom the drugs have been supplied in the city, and the trail of digital transaction /payment is in progress.
