Pimpri, 24th August 2023: Following the spirited success of the “Memes” and “Reels” competitions, the Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporation’s tax collection department has taken another innovative step to encourage tax compliance among citizens. The upcoming “Tu Kardata, Tu Karvita” campaign is set to be unveiled, aimed at expressing appreciation to conscientious taxpayers for their significant property tax contributions that have been instrumental in bolstering the civic finances.

Property tax constitutes a vital source of revenue for the tax collection department, playing a pivotal role in the municipality’s funding structure. The “Tu Kardata, Tu Karvita” campaign will artistically spotlight the positive impact that dutiful taxpayers’ contributions have had on the lives of ordinary citizens. In the first four months of the current financial year alone, the taxation and tax collection department has collected nearly Rs 500 crores in taxes.

The campaign will illustrate how citizens’ tax payments have directly benefitted the underprivileged sections of society. It will illuminate instances where medical facilities, educational financial aid, concessions for the vulnerable, disabled, women, and children, as well as grants and welfare initiatives for marginalized groups, have improved lives. Employing diverse mediums such as social media, news coverage, videos, audio content, and informative boards, the tax collection department aims to convey these transformations effectively.

Engaging with citizens has been a priority for the tax collection department, which has fostered communication channels like “Kar Samvad” and a round-the-clock helpline. The upcoming campaign is a continuation of this effort, as highlighted by Nilesh Deshmukh, the department’s head.

By paying their property taxes dutifully in the past and present financial years, conscious citizens have fulfilled their civic obligations. The “Tu Kardata, Tu Karvita” campaign acknowledges these contributions, while also spotlighting the positive impact of the municipality’s initiatives on the lives of its residents. This campaign stands as a testament to good governance, emphasizing the municipality’s commitment to its citizens. Shekhar Singh, Commissioner and Administrator of PCMC, described it as an integral aspect of municipal responsibility.
