Pune: PCMC Issues Notice To Tata Motors For Rs 259 Crore Tax

Pimpri, 9th July 2021:  Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is conducting a search operation for unregistered properties and a notice has been issued to Tata Motors for the additional construction work. About Rs 259 crore tax collection notices have been issued, said Deputy Commissioner of Taxation Smita Zagde.

 

The search is being carried by (PCMC) based on satellite images and an investigation is underway into the actual construction of the building and its record with the Municipal Corporation. The survey work has been outsourced to a private company, which is looking for properties. The team then inspects the site and gives the relevant information to the tax collection department. After that, notice is given by the tax collection department.

 

According to a senior official, claims have been filed in court by private companies regarding tax levied. Many cases are pending with court and this has affected the tax collection from private companies.

 

Search via satellite image: Tata Motors has done a lot of construction on the company’s premises. However, they are not registered with the tax collection department. The survey team surveyed based on satellite images. Also checked the plans of the building permit department. It was found that some of the properties were not registered with the Municipal Corporation.

 

Twenty-one days for explanation: The Corporation has issued a notice to pay Rs 259 tax to Tata Motors in two cases, in the first case RS 194 crore taxes levied and in another case; Rs 65 crore has been demanded. Notice has been given ten days before and a period of twenty-one days has been given to explain them. Earlier Tata Motors has been given the notice to pay tax twice in 2016 and 2019. The company does not respond to PCMC officials also, officials are not allowed to come to the company’s premises.

A search operation is underway for unregistered properties in the municipal area. It was found that the buildings constructed by the Tata Company were not registered with the tax collection department; therefore we have issued a notice to the company. An explanation period is also given, said Smita Zagde, Deputy Commissioner of Tax collection department.
