Pimpri, 14th January 2024: In a bid to enhance the pedestrian experience and encourage healthy habits among citizens, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has unveiled the ‘Harit Setu’ project. This initiative aims to create seamless pathways from residential areas to metro stations, bus stands, schools, colleges, and other essential facilities, making daily commutes more convenient for the residents.

A two-day National Workshop on Smart Cities convened at Nigdi, where city officials, including Additional Commissioner Vijay kumar Khorate, City Engineer Makarand Nikam, City Engineer Pramod Ombhase, and Deputy Commissioner Manoj Lonkar, discussed the implementation of the ‘Harit Setu’ project. Commissioner Shekhar Singh highlighted the importance of collaboration with experienced experts from around the country for the success of this ambitious project.

The PCMC recognizes the significance of combining civic participation and innovation for the beautification and safety of city roads. ‘Harit Setu’ seeks to make public spaces vibrant and engaging for pedestrians, children, and residents. The corporation aims to tap into the expertise of experienced professionals to bring an innovative edge to this initiative.

PCMC is actively working on various aspects to promote healthy habits such as walking, cycling, and running among citizens. The goal is to create awareness about available public infrastructure and encourage its utilization. Commissioner Singh emphasized the need for developing roads and public areas, stating that the insights gained from the workshop will contribute significantly to achieving these goals. Additionally, a Green Bond will be raised to ensure the sustainable implementation of the ‘Harit Setu’ project.

Under the ‘Harit Setu’ project, encroachments on footpaths will be strictly prohibited. The newly developed sidewalks will feature trees, providing shade for students, senior citizens, women, and children during the summer months. The prohibition of encroachments aims to create unobstructed pathways, enabling citizens to walk freely without hindrance.
