Yerwada, 14th January 2024: In a bid to enhance awareness and education about traffic rules, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to establish a traffic park within the sprawling four and a half acres of PMC’s Indraprastha Udyan at Phulenagar, Yerwada. The initiative aims to educate citizens of all ages, including school students, on the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and fostering responsible driving habits.

PMC Additional Commissioner, Vikas Dhakne, revealed that the traffic park project, estimated to cost approximately 15 crores, will be funded under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by a private company. Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India Nitin Gadkari has pledged assistance for the project and has provided valuable suggestions during its conceptualization.

For the initial five years, the private company responsible for funding the park will also handle its maintenance and operation. After this period, the ownership and management will be transitioned to PMC. The park will be designed as a thematic space dedicated to transportation within the city, aligning with the evolving landscape of Pune.

Pune, renowned as a city of bicycles, has witnessed a significant surge in private vehicle ownership over the past two decades, leading to challenges such as traffic congestion, accidents, and pollution. The establishment of this traffic park is a proactive measure to address these issues by promoting public awareness and responsible driving practices.

Situated near the Regional Transport Office (RTO) office, the traffic park will serve as a valuable resource for individuals seeking to obtain their learner’s licenses. The practical exposure provided within the park’s facilities is expected to significantly benefit aspiring drivers and contribute to safer road practices.

The traffic park will boast a range of facilities designed to educate and engage visitors, including:

– Traffic regulation information boards

– Transportation-related training facilities

– Heavy and light vehicle simulators

– Separate e-vehicle rides for children

– Dedicated vehicle track demonstrating traffic rules

– Cafeteria for visitors

– Educational and entertaining modules for children emphasizing transport education through entertainment
