Pune: PCMC Struggles to Sell Seized Properties, Announces Third Auction

Reported By Varad Bhatkhande
Pimpri Chinchwad, 5th February 2025: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) conducted two rounds of auctions for 43 seized properties of defaulters owing more than Rs 1 lakh in dues. However, both times, neither the property owners nor prospective buyers showed any interest or contacted the PCMC Administration. As a result, PCMC is now forced to conduct a third auction for properties worth Rs 221.54 crore. If there is no response this time, the properties will be transferred to the PCMC at a nominal price.
PCMC had sealed and seized these properties after repeated notices and appeals to defaulters for tax payments went unanswered. The auction included 23 residential and 20 non-residential properties, with dues ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 8 lakh. The properties, located in areas such as Nigdi, Akurdi, Chinchwad, Walhekarwadi, Pimpri Market, Morwadi, Dapodi, Kasarwadi, Charholi, Wakad, and others, were listed for auction with values reaching up to ₹1 crore.
Interested buyers were required to submit necessary documents and register at the Taxation and Tax Collection office by 31st January. However, no registrations were received within the deadline. With no response from property owners or buyers, PCMC has begun preparations for a third auction. Assistant Commissioner Avinash Shinde, in charge of the Taxation and Tax Collection Department said that if this auction also fails to attract interest, the properties will be taken over by the PCMC at a nominal price.
Officials suspect that the lack of participation may be due to the old condition of the listed properties.
