Pune: PCMC Takes Action After Tragic Hoarding Collapse, 72 New Illegal Billboards Discovered

Pimpri, 23rd April 2023: Following the collapse of an illegal hoarding in Kiwale which claimed five lives and injured three on April 17, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has taken action to remove 37 illegal billboards in the area.

In addition to the 433 illegal billboards already pending in court, 72 new illegal billboards were discovered in the city, out of which 37 have been dismantled and the remaining 35 will be removed within the next two days.

The Sky Signs and Licensing Department is working alongside encroachment removal teams under the supervision of License Inspectors to remove the illegal billboards, which are located in areas such as Mumbai-Bangalore Highway, Punavle, Punavle Road, Tathwade, Hinjawadi, Wakad Road, Kasarwadi, Dehu-Moshi Road, Dighi, Indrayaninagar, Bhosari MIDC, Vinode Vasti, Marunjee, Kaspte Vasti, Londhe Vasti, and Kiwale.

Assistant Commissioner Nilesh Deshmukh has instructed that any boards in the city which exceed the approved measurement should be immediately reduced in size, otherwise they will be considered illegal and a case will be filed.

Municipal Commissioner and Administrator of PCMC, Shekhar Singh, has said that all illegal boards in the city will be demolished apart from those which are already pending in court. The municipality is also urging the public to come forward and report any illegal billboards in the area.
