Pune: Peace Valley Society’s Decade-Long Eco-Initiatives Culminate in Solar Power Milestone
Pimple Saudagar, 27th October 2023: Peace Valley Cooperative Housing Society in Pimple Saudagar has been leading environmental protection initiatives for a decade. Various committees have consistently supported these causes, fostering a green ethos.
Their latest endeavour is the installation of a Solar Power plant, conceived by former chairman Hemant Bhadane. This substantial project, managed by former secretaries Uday Tibdewal and Anand Agarwal, involves meticulous planning, procurement, and execution. Natural Light Energy Solutions was entrusted with the project, which is now operational and set for official commissioning on October 24, 2023. The initiative is anticipated to save 80% on electricity bills, amounting to an annual saving of 16 lakh rupees and potential carbon credits.
The inauguration was attended by Charuhas Kulkarni, Director of Pune Housing Federation, and D. V. Deshmukh, Additional Executive of MSEDCL. Sujeet Nanaware, Executive Engineer of the Pimple Saudagar MSEDCL section, provided guidance. Representatives from neighbouring societies were present and appreciated Peace Valley Society’s efforts.
Their journey towards sustainability began with a Rainwater Harvesting project, reducing reliance on water tankers. Tap Aerators were installed, effectively conserving water. Continuous tree planting, led by Prashant Deshpande, enhanced green cover and contributed to local temperature moderation and increased precipitation.
Dual-mode flush tanks were introduced to reduce water consumption, resulting in an annual saving of 50 lakh litres. The Solar Water Heater system underwent essential maintenance, lowering residents’ power bills by 30%.
