Camp, 28th March 2026: Fuel sales and supply at a petrol pump in the Camp area have been suspended with immediate effect after the outlet was accused of spreading unverified information about a shortage of petrol and diesel.

According to officials, the action was taken after it came to light that the petrol pump had allegedly circulated misleading information regarding fuel availability, which led to panic among citizens. The directive to halt operations was issued by the concerned oil marketing company.

Authorities stated that spreading rumours about a fuel shortage has been classified as a “major irregularity” under the Marketing Discipline Guidelines (MDG) 2024. The alleged act was also considered a violation of the conditions of the dealership agreement, prompting immediate action against the fuel outlet.

Officials said that oil marketing companies have been consistently informing the public that fuel supplies remain normal. However, the circulation of unverified information raised concerns that it could trigger unnecessary panic, resulting in crowds and confusion at other petrol pumps in the area.

The authorities added that the situation had the potential to disturb law and order if such rumours led to panic buying.

The petrol pump operator has been directed to submit a written explanation within 24 hours. Officials from the oil company’s Pune regional office stated that if the response is found to be unsatisfactory, stricter action, including cancellation of the dealership, may be initiated.

The information regarding the action was confirmed by the district supply office.
