Pune: Pimpri-Chinchwad Sees Surge in Violence Over Trivial Matters, Cases Registered with Hinjawadi, Sangvi and Kalewadi Police
Pimpri Chinchwad, 4th March 2025: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate (PCPC) has been grappling with a series of violent incidents sparked by seemingly minor provocations, highlighting a concerning trend of escalating aggression in the region. Three separate cases of physical assault were reported within a 24-hour period. These days, such incidents over petty reasons are occurring with increasing frequency.
In Maan Village near Hinjawadi, a grocery store owner fell victim to a violent attack on Sunday night when a young man, claiming to be the local “bhai”, vandalized the shop with a koyta. The incident occurred after the shop owner, Vaibhav Bodke, asked a group to stop fighting in front of his store. The accused, Swapnil Pawar, allegedly threatened Bodke and damaged property, asserting his local influence and demanding protection money from other businesses.
Meanwhile, in Pimple Saudagar, a misunderstanding at a hotel led to a brutal assault. Nikhil Mandal, mistaking Harshal Mahadik for a waiter, asked for water, which provoked Mahadik to attack Mandal with a kadha (metal bangle), causing injuries to his head and right eye. The Sangvi Police are investigating the case, which occurred on Sunday afternoon.
In another incident in Kalewadi’s Gajanan Colony, a family dispute turned violent when Vijay Survase and his relatives confronted their neighbors about harassing Survase’s mother. The situation quickly escalated, resulting in a physical altercation where three accused individuals allegedly assaulted Survase, his brother, and their mother. The attackers also damaged mobile phones and struck Survase with a wooden stick, causing head injuries. Kalewadi Police are investigating this matter further.
These incidents have raised concerns about public safety and the hair-trigger tempers that seem to be prevalent in the area. Senior police officials from the PCPC have urged citizens to exercise restraint and seek legal recourse for disputes rather than resorting to violence.
