Undri, 31st August 2023: Despite almost six years since Undri’s inclusion in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the residents of Nyati County and the surrounding societies continue to grapple with the PMC water pipeline crisis in the area, and their pleas to PMC have remained unanswered.

According to data provided by the Nyati County Residents Forum (NCRF), the total annual consumption of water tankers, averaging 15,000 litres per tanker, amounts to approximately 45,000 tankers of water supplied to the societies of Nyati County. With an average cost of Rs 600 per tanker, the residents collectively pay around Rs 2.72 crore annually. In addition to this, the residents also contribute to PMC water tax as part of their property tax.

Aniruddh Pawaskar, Head of PMC’s Water Supply Department, stated, “Water supply is a complex process that cannot be accomplished overnight. The groundwork for the pipeline infrastructure is currently in progress. In accordance with the 24×7 water supply scheme, our goal is to ensure consistent water supply to the area within the next 8-10 months.”

However, Sunil Koloti, a resident of Nyati Windchimes, countered this claim, saying, “No groundwork or water infrastructure developments have been observed thus far. It is difficult to believe that the work will be completed within the next 10 months.”

The citizens of the Undri-Mohammadwadi area face a range of other civic issues beyond the water crisis. These include the absence of sewage lines connecting societies to the main drainage system, a lack of garbage collection services provided by PMC, poorly maintained roads riddled with potholes and encroachments, inadequate street lighting, and the presence of billboards and hoardings that pose a risk of accidents.
