Pune, 14th December 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a proposal to plan roads in 32 villages under its jurisdiction, with the aim of aligning the roads according to the Regional Plan (RP). The decision, passed by the Standing Committee on Friday (13th December), comes with an estimated cost of ₹41 lakh.

The 34 villages were included in the PMC following the State Government’s inclusion of 11 villages in 2017 and 23 more in 2021. However, two villages, Uruli Devachi and Fursungi, were recently excluded from the PMC limits. Despite the inclusion, the development plans for these villages have yet to be finalized, limiting the PMC’s ability to develop new infrastructure.

As a result, the PMC has been focused on basic maintenance activities, such as repairing existing roads and filling potholes in the villages. The corporation does not have precise information on the current roads, proposed road alignments, or planned road widenings as per the government’s RP. Consequently, new roads cannot be constructed until proper planning and clarity are established.

The new plan aims to design roads based on the RP, which will help ensure proper road development and prevent encroachment. The initiative will provide clarity for future land transactions and development activities in these villages, as residents will know the defined road spaces, enabling smooth land transactions and reducing legal ambiguities.
