Pune: PMC Approves Rs 75 Crore for Katraj-Kondhwa Road Widening Land Acquisition; Total Allocation Reaches Rs 215 Crore
Katraj, 25th June 2025: In a significant move to ease traffic congestion in South Pune, the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Finance Committee on Tuesday approved ₹75 crore for land acquisition needed for the Katraj-Kondhwa road widening project. With this, the total funds sanctioned for land acquisition on this stretch now stand at ₹215 crore, of which ₹130 crore has already been handed over to the District Collector’s office.
The road widening work is one of the key infrastructure projects undertaken by the PMC to resolve persistent traffic bottlenecks on the busy Katraj-Kondhwa corridor. Although the state government had sanctioned ₹140 crore earlier, only ₹9.57 crore of that amount has been utilized so far due to delays attributed to the Land Records and Survey Department.
Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has prioritized the project, pushing for faster execution given the daily struggles of commuters in the area. “This is a crucial road for the city’s southern traffic flow, and we are committed to resolving long-pending acquisition and development hurdles,” an official from his office said.
Mixed Mode of Acquisition
In some sections of the road, construction has already begun where the land is in PMC’s possession. In other areas, land acquisition has been facilitated by offering Transferable Development Rights (TDR) to landowners. The grade separator construction is also in progress, and work is being carried out in phases wherever land has been made available.
Additional ₹75 Crore Cleared
The newly approved ₹75 crore is expected to expedite pending acquisitions and enable seamless progress in the coming months. This funding is part of a broader effort to ensure that work on the Katraj-Kondhwa road, a major lifeline for thousands of residents and daily commuters, moves forward without administrative delays.
Drainage Work to Begin Near Rajas Society, SBI Bank
Alongside the road widening, the PMC’s Road Department is also addressing drainage issues along the stretch. Aniruddha Pawaskar, head of PMC’s Road Department, conducted a site inspection on Tuesday and noted that waterlogging has been a persistent issue in front of Rajas Society and SBI Bank.
“To resolve this, we have decided to lay two 300 mm diameter rainwater drainage lines in this section,” Pawaskar said.
