Pune: PMC Hikes Water Tanker Rates By 5% Amid Rising Summer Demand

Pune, 17th April 2025: As summer intensifies and temperatures continue to climb, the demand for water across Pune is expected to surge in the coming weeks. In response to the seasonal spike, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a 5% hike in the rates for water supplied to private water tankers.
This revision in charges is likely to impact residents who depend on tanker water, increasing the burden on their household expenses. At present, various parts of the city, including Parvati, Vadgaon Sheri, Dhayari, Ramtekdi, Chatushrungi, Padmavati, and Patwardhan Baug are PMC-operated supply centers. These centers also cater to private tanker operators who distribute water to residential areas with limited municipal supply.
With a noticeable rise in water demand already being felt—and expectations of further increase in May—PMC has justified the price hike as a necessary step to offset rising operational costs.
Previously, a 10,000-litre water tanker was supplied to private operators at Rs 666. Following the 5% increase, the new rate stands at Rs 699. The civic body claims that the price adjustment is essential to manage the expenses of water distribution during a time when demand and costs are both on the rise.
