Mohammadwadi, 9th May 2026: Representatives from nearly 50 residential housing societies in Mohammadwadi participated in a special water connection assistance camp organised by the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Water Supply Department at Ganga Kingston Society on Friday.

The camp was organised to guide residents and housing societies regarding the upcoming water distribution system from the Dorabjee Tank and the procedure for obtaining new society-level water connections.

During the programme, PMC officials provided detailed information on compliance requirements, documentation, application procedures and technical formalities related to the new water supply network. Residents and society representatives also raised queries regarding connection approvals, pipeline infrastructure and future water distribution planning.

Deputy Engineer Neelkanth Shilwant, along with Junior Engineers Pravin Kalmakar and Nikhil Gharat, interacted with citizens and assisted them throughout the session.

Junior Engineer Pravin Kalmakar said the camp received a constructive response from residents and helped clarify several procedural aspects related to water connections.

“It was a very fruitful discussion with representatives of nearly 50 housing societies from Mohammadwadi. We explained in detail the compliance requirements, documentation process and technical procedures necessary for obtaining new water connections. Citizens actively participated, raised important queries and sought clarification on various issues related to the upcoming distribution system. Such direct interaction helps create awareness and ensures smoother implementation of the water supply project,” Kalmakar said.

Residents welcomed the initiative and appreciated PMC’s efforts to directly engage with citizens amid the ongoing work to operationalise the Dorabjee Tank water distribution network in Mohammadwadi and adjoining areas.

The programme, held at Ganga Kingston Society, was attended by social activist Jaymala Dhankikar, journalist Nadeem Inamdar, Arul Horizon, Jay Nair, Sakku Ganesh, committee members of the society, and the Secretary of Ganga Kingston Society. Corporators Atul Tarawade and Nivrutti Anna Bandal were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Bandal said a transparent and affordable system for obtaining water connections was necessary to protect citizens from unnecessary expenses.

“Water is a basic necessity, and every citizen should be able to obtain a water connection through a transparent, affordable and citizen-friendly process. We have received several complaints that residents are being charged different amounts by licensed plumbers for the same type of work. This creates confusion and places an unnecessary financial burden on housing societies and individual homeowners. I will strongly pursue the matter with the PMC administration and ensure that a policy decision is taken to implement a uniform fee structure for licensed plumbers. A clear and standardised system will protect citizens from overcharging, bring transparency to the process and help ensure smoother implementation of the new water distribution network in Mohammadwadi and adjoining areas,” Bandal said.

Supporting the demand, Jaymala Dhankikar said the interests of residents must remain protected while implementing the new water supply system.

“The interests of citizens must remain the top priority while implementing the new water connection system. Residents should not face unnecessary financial burden or procedural difficulties in accessing basic amenities like water. I fully support Nivrutti Anna Bandal’s demand for a uniform PMC-approved fee structure for licensed plumbers so that transparency is maintained and citizens are protected from overcharging. Such initiatives will help build trust between the administration and the people,” Dhankikar said.
