Pune, 11th March 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to connect a new water pipeline from the Vadgaon Water Purification Plant to provide clean water to Dhayari and Narhe villages, which were recently incorporated into the city limits. The estimated cost of the project is said to be ₹70 crore.

Several villages along Sinhagad Road, including Dhayari and Narhe, currently do not receive purified water. Instead, water from dams is transported, stored in wells, and then pumped into the local water supply. The lack of proper filtration has led to a rise in cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) in the area, with some patients succumbing to the illness while others continue to receive treatment. In response to this public health crisis, PMC has taken the crucial step of ensuring clean water supply to these areas.

Dhayari, which was part of Pune’s original municipal limits, already receives water from the Vadgaon purification plant. The civic body now plans to extend the same supply to the newly added areas of Dhayari and Narhe. Additional Commissioner Prithviraj BP informed that the Water Supply Department will install a 200-meter-long pipeline to connect the purified water supply network. This part of the project will cost ₹70 lakh, and the tendering process is already underway. Once approved, the work is expected to be completed within two months.

In addition to this, the PMC has taken emergency measures to curb the spread of GBS in Dhayari, Khadakwasla, Nanded, Narhe, and Kirkatwadi. Chlorination machines have been installed at four key water sources—Nanded Well, Barangane Mala Well, Khadakwasla Jackwell, and Prayag City—at a cost of ₹87 lakh. These steps are expected to improve water quality and reduce health risks in the affected areas.
