Pune, 26th November 2023: The Building Development of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken decisive action by issuing stop-work notices to an additional 67 builders who neglected measures to prevent air pollution and compromised safety standards. The targeted areas include all the Peths, Koregaon Park, Baner, and Balewadi.

This move is part of the PMC’s response to combat the degradation of air quality impacting citizens’ health, as both central and state governments have mandated regulations to curb dust generation and dissemination.

The PMC authorities are actively enforcing measures such as applying sheets up to 25 feet, green jute cloth, and watering to minimize airborne dust. The recent tragic incident in Baner, where a nine-year-old boy, Rudra Raut, lost his life after an iron ball fell on his head, has also brought the issue of construction site safety to the forefront.

To address these concerns, a team from the Pune Municipal Corporation is conducting on-site inspections to ensure pollution prevention and safety compliance. Notices have been issued, demanding explanations for non-compliance with regulations and proposing the halting of construction projects that violate established rules. Notably, in the past two days, 57 notices were issued, with a focus on Zones No. 3, 4, and 7, covering Baner, Balewadi, Kothrud, Warje, Vimannagar, Koregaon Park, and all Peths.

However, it was observed that, out of the 67 notices issued today, a significant portion—60 notices—pertained to Zone No. 3, 4, and 7. Specifically, 18 constructions in Zone No. 3, 17 in Zone No. 4, and 25 in Zone No. 7 received notices. In Zones No. 1 and 2, two and five notices were issued, respectively. This brings the total number of builders served with notices to 124, according to Superintending Engineer Yuvraj Deshmukh.
