Pune, 13th September 2025: Citizens often prefer paying property tax through cheques, but a rise in cheque bounce cases has led to delays in tax recovery for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). In response, the civic body has begun issuing notices directly to defaulters.

According to officials, the Property Tax Department has already issued notices to 431 property owners whose cheque payments failed since August. The total outstanding amount in these cases stands at ₹18 crore.

Avinash Sapkal, head of the department, confirmed the development. “We have observed multiple cheque bounce incidents in property tax payments. Notices are being issued to concerned property holders to recover dues,” he said.

Officials pointed out that cheque failures occur due to several reasons, including missing signatures, errors in numbers, letters or dates, banks stopping payments, and other technical issues.

PMC has urged citizens to ensure accuracy in cheque details or use alternative modes of payment to avoid penalties and delays in property tax clearance.
