Pune, 9th May 2025: Ahead of the monsoon season, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has directed the removal of hazardous trees and branches across the city. The instructions were issued by Additional Commissioner Prithviraj BP on Thursday (8th May), emphasizing that the work should be completed proactively without waiting for complaints from citizens.

Pre-monsoon preparations have commenced in the city, including the cleaning of drains, stormwater channels, and drainage chambers. During these operations, several areas were found to have fallen branches and trees posing risks to pedestrians and motorists. Some of these hazardous trees and branches are located within residential societies, with their branches extending onto public walkways, creating potential hazards.

Currently, the Garden Department of the PMC is trimming branches along public roads. However, the staff has been hesitant to address hazardous branches within private societies unless a formal complaint is filed by the society management. This approach has raised concerns about accountability in case of accidents involving dangerous trees or branches.

Despite receiving complaints from societies, PMC staff have cited pending approvals as the reason for not taking action promptly. In response, Additional Commissioner Prithviraj BP has directed the Garden Department to remove dangerous branches immediately, without waiting for formal complaints or applications.

The Garden Department currently has 47 vehicles at its disposal for carrying out the removal of hazardous trees and branches, and the officials have been instructed to expedite the process before the monsoon sets in.
