In Pune, roads have deteriorated due to repeated excavations for works by the water supply scheme, sewerage department and road department. The first heavy rains have washed away many roads. Due to a large number of potholes on the roads, the speed of traffic has slowed down and the number of accidents has also increased.

Last year, these roads were excavated during the Covid period. These works were expected to be completed by May 15. The municipal administration had announced that the roads will be restored from May 15 to the first week of June.

Due to the extension of the road digging works, the process of restoring the roads has been delayed. Therefore the condition of the roads deteriorated during the monsoon season.

The commissioner has directed the road department to fill the potholes in the city roads. It has been instructed to continue the work during the night. While there are potholes on the roads in the city, the Road Department has started work at a very slow pace.
