Pune, 17th March 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has collected ₹954.78 crore under its property tax amnesty scheme implemented between November 15 and March 15, officials said.

Under the scheme, residential and commercial property owners were offered a 75 per cent waiver on interest charged on pending property tax dues. A total of 1.64 lakh property owners availed of the benefit, resulting in a record recovery of arrears for the civic body.

PMC officials said the property tax department has outstanding dues of around ₹13,000 crore. Due to non-payment, a penal interest of 24 per cent per annum is levied, causing the dues to increase further each year.

Including regular collections and the amnesty scheme, the civic body has so far generated around ₹2,800 crore in revenue. This also includes about ₹1,850 crore collected in the financial year 2025–26.

This was the sixth time the PMC introduced an amnesty scheme. Earlier schemes were limited to residential properties and taxpayers with dues below ₹50 lakh. However, this time no such conditions were imposed. The administration had expected to recover nearly ₹5,500 crore from around 4.97 lakh defaulters.

Despite this, only about 21–22 per cent of the targeted arrears were recovered. The PMC had extended the scheme twice over the past four months to boost participation.

With the deadline for tax payments ending on March 31, the civic administration has now decided to take strict action against defaulters. Officials said measures such as sealing properties will be intensified along with regular recovery efforts.
