Pune 3rd Oct 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s anto encroachment department has started taking action against the Ganesh Mandals that have not removed pandals even after the festival is over. The civic body has taken action against a total of 22 such Mandals in the last two days by seizing the material.
According to officials, the Ganesh Mandals were given two days time to remove the pandals from city roads after the festival was over. However, many of them are yet to start removing the pandals which is leading to inconvenience to the commuters while travelling on the city roads.
The municipal corporation had given a permission to a total of 2,905 Ganesh Mandals to set up pandals during the ganesh festival in the city. Mandals are prohibited from obstructing the roads and causing inconvenience to the public while erecting the pandals. Besides the main pandals, the civic officials also found advertisement hoardings installed during the festival.
The Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar has directed the concerned officials to take strict action against such pandals. The officials have initiated the action on Monday morning, putting up barricades on the roads where these pandals are located.
The municipal crackdown has started, and several mandals have begun removing their pandals. Mandals that still have advertisements displayed outside or within their premises will face strict action and unauthorized advertisements will also be removed, said the officials. The Ganesh Mandals have been given a deadline of October 7 to remove the leftover material of pandals and advertisements from city roads.
