Pune, 23 March 2021: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started a road widening process in many parts of the city. However, the societies have not been informed by the Municipal Corporation. As a result, many societies in the city are unaware of the proposed road widening process. Hence, it has made it inappropriate for society to go to the Municipal Corporation site and get information about it.

The PMC will widen up the six meters wide road in the city to nine meters. In the first phase, PMC has selected 335 roads. Many societies in the suburbs, including Deccan, Karvenagar, Erandwana, Bibwewadi, Sahakarnagar, will be affected. Assuming that the societies will redevelop the buildings, the Municipal Corporation has issued notices for widening the roads. However, the notice has not reached the society members. The Municipal Corporation had invited objections on the widening of this road, and its deadline has also expired.

The parking lot of many societies will be affected due to road widening. Some citizens of Deccan Gymkhana, Erandwana, Prabhat Road, Bhandarkar Road, Sahakarnagar have objected to the proposed road widening. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also taken a cautious stance after the revelations, saying it would not widen the road if the landlords opposed it. However, road widening proposals will be approved immediately where there is no opposition or road widening is required.
