Pune, 27th December 2021: To decongest footpaths and roads, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to auction off abandoned vehicles.

The RTO registration of the vehicle will be canceled if the vehicle is not picked up within 7 days of the notification being issued. After that, the vehicles will be auctioned off.

According to PMC officials, there are several housing societies in the city that do not have parking facilities. And then some people own multiple four-wheelers, so they park them on the road near their homes. As a result, parked vehicles are always present on the narrow lanes, footpaths and roads. Several vehicles have remained in the same spot for years obstructing the traffic. There lies a huge amount of garbage under these vehicles. Therefore, the PMC has decided to take action against such vehicles.

PMC’s 15 ward offices have been ordered to find such vehicles blocking the road and causing traffic. A notice will be issued to the vehicle owners with the help of the registration number plates of these vehicles. After seven days of giving notice if the vehicle is still on the road, the PMC will seize the vehicle and transport it to the godown. Vehicle owners who contact the RTO before the seizing process is complete will be fined Rs 10,000 as a penalty.

For the owners who didn’t contact the PMC, a proposal to de-register the automobile will be sent to the RTO and will be sent forward to auction off. This action will begin on January 15th and vehicles will be issued with notices before that.
