Pune: PMC To Collect Illegal Construction Charges Through Property Tax 

Pune, 4th December 2021: After taking action against illegal construction in the city, the landlords have no choice but to pay the cost. But since the landlords are ignoring it, the administration has now come up with a proposal to recover the amount directly from the property tax. In the last 10 years, the arrears have gone up to Rs 15 crore.

Before taking action on illegal constructions in the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) issues a notice to the concerned landowners. But the landlords ignored it, so the construction department and the anti-encroachment department have jointly taken action on such constructions. JCB, police escort, staff, trucks have to be used for this operation. This cost is to be paid by the landowner to the Municipal Corporation. However, the landowners are not paying the amount that is due. 

Also many politicians, Corporators have been pressurising the officers not to take any action against it, therefore the arrears of such an amount is huge. To cope with this situation, the PMC has now decided to recover the amount directly from the property tax.
