Pune, 5th December 2021: The first patient to be infected with the corona variant Omicron has been found in Pune city.

The Maharashtra state government has mandated conducting a survey of passengers from high-risk countries as there is an atmosphere of concern over the omicron variant of the corona around the world.

A 47-year-old man was found to be infected with the Omicron variant from the same regular survey. He had gone to Finland in November. After getting his report, the RTPCR test was conducted on all those who come in contact with him. Their report will come soon.

Now to deal with the threat of the Omicron variant, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has come out with a preventive measure.

PMC Assistant Health Officer Dr Sanjeev Wavre said, “Omicron-infected patients have mild symptoms. Corona tests are being performed on all those who come in contact with the patient. Samples of those who have been infected with corona will be sent to the lab for genome sequencing to know about the corona variant. Patients with symptoms will be admitted to Naidu Hospital, while those without symptoms will be kept in isolation.”

He added, “Contact tracing and regular surveys are being conducted. Infected patients will be treated and isolated based on their symptoms.”
