Pune, 13th March 2023: To encourage the use of electric vehicles in the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will now give a subsidy of Rs 25,000 to convert rickshaws into e-rickshaws, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar informed.

Due to the continuous increase in fuel prices in the country, the demand for electric vehicles has increased. In this background, according to the electric vehicle promotion program of the state government, the municipal corporation has planned a subsidy scheme to encourage the use of electric vehicles in the city.

According to this, the municipality will give a subsidy of Rs 25,000 to bring e-rickshaws onto the road in the city. Earlier, the municipality was giving Rs 12,000 each to fit three-wheeler rickshaws with CNG kits to reduce air pollution in the city.

Meanwhile, it costs about Rs 70,000 to convert each rickshaw into an e-rickshaw. The municipality will give Rs 25,000 to retrofit each rickshaw. The remaining 60 per cent amount will have to be spent by the vehicle owner. The municipality will also set up charging stations at various places in the city for charging these e-rickshaws.
