Pune 2nd Sept 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation has decided to inspect all the legal hoardings in the city to check if they are installed following the norms. The decision came after one such hoarding installed in Shivajinagar was found violating the norms. Some hoardings installed in the city were found to be larger in size than permitted following which an action was taken against the hoarding owners in the past.

However, this prompted the PMC officials to check all the legal hoardings in the city. The officials have claimed that the possibility of hoarding owners not following the necessary rules cannot be ruled out due to which the inspection will be conducted and those found in violation will be punished as per the rule. Earlier, it was found that the hoarding owners were involved in cutting trees without permission to make the advertisements on their hoardings visible.

According to officials, a total of 2,348 legal hoardings with permission have been installed in the city and the owners have been made aware of rules while installing these hoardings. It may be noted that the PMC had earlier asked the hoarding owners to conduct a structural audit of the legal hoardings in time to avoid any major accident. Two major accidents involving iron hoardings in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad have been reported in the last few years in which several people have lost their lives.
