Pune: PMC To Speed Up Tunnel Work To Connect Kothrud-Pashan And Panchwati-Gokhalenagar

Shivajinagar, 20th June 2021: The two proposed tunnel works in the city will be done on priority in the coming days, said Mayor Murlidhar Mohol.

The Pune municipal corporation (PMC) will soon construct the tunnels between Panchwati – Pashan – Kothrud and Panchwati – Pashan – Gokhle Nagar.

On Saturday (19th June) a meeting was held between the District  Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar and Mayor Mohol to review the tunnel work. MLA Siddharth Shirole, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, City Engineer Prashant Waghmare, Chief Engineer Srinivas Bonala were present during the meeting.

Speaking about the tunnel project, Mayor Mohol said, “The current distance from Kothrud to Pashan is 8.5 Km via Chandni Chowk and the same distance is 9.5 Km via Senapati Bapat Road. The tunnel will reduce the distance up to four kilometres. Similarly, the distance from Pashan Road to Gokhalenagar is 4.5 Km and the tunnel will reduce this distance up to 2.9 Km.”

The length of the Kothrud to Panchavati tunnel is 1,090 meters and the length of the Panchavati to Gokhalenagar tunnel is 580 meters.

A consultant was appointed for this work. However, due to the delay in work, the process of changing the consultant has been started. The process has received a response and a consultant has been appointed after discussion, said Mayor Mohol.
