Pune: PMC Ward Structure Hearing Gets 5,922 Objections; 828 Citizens Attend in Person
Pune, 12th September 2025: The draft ward structure prepared for the upcoming municipal elections has drawn a strong response from citizens, with a total of 5,922 objections submitted across wards 1 to 41. Of these, 828 objectors were present in person during the hearings.
On the second day of the proceedings at Balgandharva auditorium, the highest attendance was recorded from Ward 24 (Kamala Nehru Hospital–Rasta Peth), where 85 objectors were present. Ward 34 (Vadgaon Budruk) saw 77 objectors in attendance, despite no objections being filed in Ward 29, where two citizens still turned up for the hearing.
The first day witnessed aggressive protests by activists from various parties, prompting authorities to deploy strict police security on the second day to maintain order.
Dhangekar’s Protest
Former MLA Ravindra Dhangekar staged a demonstration outside the venue, wearing a black ribbon in protest against what he termed political interference in the ward structure process.

Next Step
The hearing process has now concluded. A detailed report on all objections and suggestions will be compiled and submitted to the Urban Development Department by September 15. The report will then be forwarded to the State Election Commission, which is expected to announce the final ward structure between October 3 and 6.
