Pune, 16th February 2025: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has sanctioned ₹2,626.37 crore for the construction of 50 new roads aimed at improving connectivity to key industrial zones such as Ranjangaon, Hinjawadi, and Pirangut. The project also includes road links to religious and tourist destinations, the planned Purandar airport, and rapidly expanding urban centers.

The decision was taken during a recent PMRDA meeting, presided over by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase stated that ₹203 crore had been earmarked for ten roads spanning a total of 60 km to enhance industrial access. “Along with constructing new roads, we will also focus on upgrading existing infrastructure,” he said.

The persistent issue of poor road conditions in Hinjawadi and other industrial areas has been a major concern for businesses operating there.

For improving access to major tourist attractions, PMRDA has allocated ₹67 crore to upgrade connectivity in nine locations, including Khadakwasla and Pavana dams, as well as forts such as Tikona, Tung, Lohagad, and Rajmachi. Five of these sites fall within Maval taluka. “Our goal is to make these destinations safer and more accessible for visitors,” Mhase added.

The plan also includes the development of a chowpatty at Khadakwasla dam, installation of protective fencing, and safety nets at Palshe waterfall in Mulshi. Additionally, ₹10 crore has been set aside for better road access to historical forts and the Mugao and Tamhini ghats in Maval.

A significant portion of the budget—₹636.84 crore—has been dedicated to road infrastructure for the proposed Purandar airport. “Ensuring well-planned road connectivity before airport construction begins is a priority,” a senior PMRDA official who attended the meeting said.

The ambitious road development initiative aims to address long-standing infrastructure challenges while facilitating economic growth, tourism, and urban expansion across the Pune Metropolitan Region.
